About Good Earth Neighborhood Association...
For many years we have been known as the Good Earth Garden Club. We are a group of women who, with a little help from our husbands, have been actively serving the Pinewood and Birchtree neighborhoods in many different ways. From keeping up street signs, to decorating for the holidays, to landscaping the Pinewood entrance sign, our goals have been to beautify our neighborhood, promote its safety, and protect property values. We meet monthly from September through May and discuss a wide variety of topics relating to our city and particularly our neighborhood. We have always had a diverse group of speakers, including state Representative Paul DeMarco, Hoover Fire Chief Tom Bradley, Hoover City Councilwoman Mari Morrison, and Judge Jill Ganus.
Why the name change? Because not all our meetings center around gardening (in fact, most do not) and our efforts as a club are much broader than just keeping our yards looking beautiful, we decided a name change would be in order to better reflect who we are. We considered several different names, but decided that Good Earth Neighborhood Association better represents our organization.
We are actively involved in many aspects of our community:
- Landscape and maintain entrance sign to the neighborhood (which includes paying property taxes on the plot of land for the sign)
- Upkeep (sometimes involving replacement) on wooden street signs in our neighborhood
- Holiday decorations
- Actively participate in community meetings and in City of Hoover happenings
- Keep abreast of current issues involving Pinewood and Birchtree neighborhoods
- And more!
We meet on the first Tuesday of each month from September through May. Our dues are $15 per person.
You may be interested to know that the things we do for the neighborhood run around $1500 a year. This includes taxes for the Pinewood sign property (yes, property taxes), as well as water bills, plantings and maintenance for the sign, repair and replacement of street signs, holiday decorations, newsletters, etc. Future plans include lighting the Pinewood sign, in addition to maintaining this website.
